Dinking Around in 3D
I’m still grabbing time to try out Zbrush when I can – which isn’t much – and Eric Keller’s book continues to prove to be invaluable for navigating my way through the complex interface.
Well, I just got to try out ZSpheres and ZSketch and the appropriate tutorial is about creating a new dragon and I thought, “Hey, I like a dragon as much as the next artist but I think I want to try something else.” And of course, being me, that ‘something else’ had to be a goblin.
This is about 90 minutes work, so very early stages and a lot of screwing around trying to work out what certain things did. Consider this stage one and hopefully I get to show you a stage two and three later on…
How is it with the books? I know it’s not a simple program just to open and start using.. Jason H. has it but I really suggested that he order the books, I think he got the same one.

Book, singular. It’s linked in my previous post with the 3D dragon. This is the newest edition of the book which was released around April. It’s incredibly important to have the most recent book with this program because when they do new iterations they add a LOT of new functionality.
I would be lost without the book, FWIW.

He has another Zbrush book, but it’s an advanced book… I think he got the book last month, so it’s likely the most up to date one. I used to do 3d stuff as a kid, but I’ve lost all that knowledge. Maybe a starting art class then get back into doing art… if hat making and derby doesn’t consume me more. 😉
I do like where you’re going with the goblin, have you thought of having anything “printed” once you’re finished? Some of the minis from soda pop and kingdom death (all from there) are made in zbrush.

Oh yes, I’ve considered printing. And jewelry design (listen hard and you can hear Jilli squeaking with glee). I’ve kept up with Zbrush’s usage for years, this is just the first time I’ve gotten to play with it.

LOL! oooOOooo Jewelry nice 🙂 I’ve thought about getting stuff made up for adornments for my hats, since I can’t find things I want. Then it’s deciding what to have made..
I look forward to seeing more of your zbrush stuff. Now if Lori can get Jason to take an hour each day atleast to read and use the program he might be ready to sculpt with it in a year.
